Five Books I’m Thankful I Read in 2018

Happy Thanksgiving, all! I don’t celebrate it (I’m not American), but if you do– I hope you enjoy eating all of the turkey and cranberries etc. While you do, why not read about the five books I read in 2018 that impacted me most?

1: In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan

IOL
Review: In Other Lands

Why I’m thankful: It has the feeling of home, like when you see young Hermoine, Ron and Harry at Hogwarts.

2: The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Holly Ringland

Review: The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

Why I’m thankful: I don’t usually appreciate Australian adult fiction. Both genres don’t grab my attention. I saw this at a popular book-shop chain, as their Book of the Month, and was intrigued by the cover (sorry, I know… I’m superficial!). It wasn’t until I saw it available on my library’s audiobook shelf that I gave it a chance. I ended up valuing Australian literature in a new light.

3: Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

Review: Ace of Shades

Why I’m thankful: This book was a fun joyride that had me escaping in an unusual mix: crime and fantasy. Plus, a lot of romance. My type of book!

4: Falling Kingdoms by  Morgan Rhodes

Read my review on Goodreads.

Why I’m thankful: This series hooked me into YA fantasy again. I was slowly drifting away, finding all subpar and dull. I LOVED how Rhodes got me to sympathise for all sides of this war, not just one kingdom.

5: Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

Review: Monday’s Not Coming

Why I’m thankful: This has to be the most significant book of the year. Themes include: police x black brutality, murder, mystery, and black rights. All from the lens of a black 12-year-old girl. I find this 1000x better than The Hate You Give.

What book are you thankful for?

  1. I have to say, I’ve avoided even reading these thanksgiving posts because I’m not American and was just like blahhh, but I stumbled onto yours and it’s such a great list 🙂 have to include Harry Potter, obviously 🙂
