Royally Screwed (Royally, #1)Royally Screwed by Emma Chase

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

If you are related to me in any way, I’d appreciate if you didn’t read this post. Unless you wanna read about me having the obscene hots for fictional characters. Thanks.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
At first, I was horrified– I thought this book was young adult! This book was not a work of art, but it was a nice distracting. When you eventually give in to the fantasy, it’s quite enjoyable.

CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:
Olivia: Our main protag, very feisty, short-tempered… She’s the atypical “I’m a spirited woman who will fight any man in my way!” but then loses any backbone she had once a guy gives her attention. Classic. Great. Inspiring…

Nicholas: Incredibly sexist, misogynistic, and has one redeeming moment in the end, which was an obvious plot point; he had to (view spoiler). Clearly. He was not attractive to me at all, and I found him to be quite a jerk.

PLOT:
It’s every royal romance you’ve ever read from Wattpad and Fanfiction. Except the HEA is a quick snippet at the end :/

STRUCTURE:
I was pleasantly surprised that this spanned from a winter in the NYC to summertime in Europe.

THEMES:
– Sex, drama, sex, drama, sex, dr-
– Family
– Money??
– Honestly everything in this story is superficial. It’s hard to find any meaning from this story.

THE ENDING:
The ending was too short after all that angst! It was too choppy and unsynced. But I do appreciate at least some of the loose ends’ tied.

IMPACT:
I’d love to see if her younger sister, Ellie, ends up with anyone. She had a better personality and seemed more three-dimensional.

  2. I’ve wanted to read this book for AGES but I hope it doesn’t have too much drama because that’s my #1 pet peeve in contemporary romance.
